Sutherland have announced they have parted ways with head coach Carlos Villazon after a disappointing start to the NPL 1 season.
The Sharks sit in 10th place with one win after seven rounds. Sutherland finished seventh last season but did not threaten to make a charge for the finals.
Villazon had been at the club for a decade. The former Chilean international was assistant coach for eight years under Robbie Stanton and then Steve O’Connor before getting a chance in the top job at the start of the 2016 campaign.
The Sharks thanked Villazon for his contribution and dedication to the club in a statement on Thursday night. The club said Villazon “always had the club’s best interest at heart” and wished him well for the future.
Alan Edmondson has been appointed caretaker coach for Sutherland’s home clash with Wollongong on Saturday night.
The club said they had not made a decision on Villazon’s replacement.
