Cancer survivors and carers have been handed a special treat at the Sutherland Shire Relay for Life - with a group of volunteers setting up a free pamper tent.
The 24-hour event started this morning with an honorary lap for cancer survivors and carers, who were then invited to make the most of a free pamper tent being manned by a group of volunteers from Sydney’s Leading Therapists.
The Relay for Life runs through until tomorrow morning and has already attracted thousands of people to Wanda Beach's Don Lucas Reserve to raise support for Cancer Council NSW.
Volunteer, and beauty therapist, Helen Gerasimou said it was great to be able to pamper the survivors and carers today, and by far the most popular treatment was massages inside the tent.
"It is about giving something back to the carers and the survivors."
Cancer survivor and volunteer Sharni Taylor helped organise the pamper tent and said the relay was a special event to be involved in.
"I have received a lot of support from Cancer Council in the past and ... this event is very uplifting.
"It is great to see all the support out here and to know cancer does not have to be a death sentence, and we are working towards a cancer-free future."
About six ladies have been manning the tent throughout the day today offering all kinds of nice treatments.
