The St George Creative Art and Craft Centre has re-opened following a makeover.
The centre, located on St Georges Rd in Penshurst, opened in 1975 and was formerly called the Pole Depot.
The centre has hosted many craft groups over the years, providing an affordable place to store art equipment and raw materials and host weekly group sessions.
The centre recently received a makeover and re-opened this month – featuring more storage and brighter work spaces. Art teacher Lee Brett said the changes looked brilliant.
“I’ve been at the centre 40 years and nothing much has changed over that time,” he said.
“I can’t believe the change – this refurbishment will bring a breath of fresh air to the centre.”
There is a wide range of craft groups who meet at the centre including mosaic, stained-glass, pottery, needlework, paper crafts, and drawing and painting groups. Classes are held for both adults and children.
St George Creative Art and Craft Centre committee head Maria Kokkoris said the renovations were long overdue.
“The centre was overdue for a fit out and this refurbishment makes it more attractive to craft groups.
“There’s better storage and brighter work spaces. We were also conscious of the centre needing to provide a safe environment for anyone attending. We’re really happy with the results.”
