Many Cronulla Sharks fans have celebrated the club’s first premiership by ordering an NRL-themed birth certificate.
A further spike in demand is expected about July with the arrival of “grand final babies”.
Sharks stars Luke Lewis, Jeremy Latimore and Sam Tagataese, who have new babies, are among the latest recipients of the commemorative certificates.
They were presented with them by Attorney-General and Cronulla MP Mark Speakman on Monday at a promotion of the Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages product.
Tagatese’s daughter Faith is three months, Latimore’s daughter Everly is 11 months and Lewis’s daughter Hazel is 13 months.
Mr Speakman said the registry had sold about 2000 NRL-themed birth certificates since launching the novel product in April last year.
They are not just for babies, but can be ordered for fans of all ages.
Mr Speakman said Canterbury Bulldogs certificates had been the biggest seller, making up 16 per cent of orders.
“Sharks certificates are the next highest with 12 per cent, but there could be a grand final spike about July,” he said.
Registrar Amanda Ianna said there had been a six-fold increase in applications for Sharks certificates since the grand final.
NRL-themed birth certificates are available in the colours of all 16 clubs.
They cost $77, compared with the standard price of $53, and are part of a package, which includes a standard birth certificate for official purposes.
