A double from Japanese import Tomohiro Kajiyama secured Sutherland a vital 3-1 win over Parramatta and dragged the Sharks off the bottom of the NPL 1 table.
Kajiyama’s first and a Jeremy Cox header gave Sutherland a 2-0 lead at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda before Kajiyama had a penalty saved.
Parramatta hit back through Gio Cerasoli late on before Kajiyama secured the win with his late second.
New Sutherland coach Grant Lee was thrilled with the three points.
“We’ve been working hard the last few weeks. First half we were patient and making chances and got our goals,” he said.
“We have some belief now and need to take it into our next few fixtures against the big teams.”
Sutherland travel to the Belmore Sports Ground to take on Sydney Olympic on Sunday.
