Riverwood Plaza set for revamp

Riverwood Plaza is set for a shake-up with long-held rumours about the newest tenant confirmed.

Aldi will now take over the space previously held by Coles who moved out in December.

The German grocery giant had long been mooted for the site but it was only confirmed this week after final terms were agreed to.

Builders will move into the site next week with doors expected to open in November.

The shop will mirror Coles size taking over a 1750 square metre space.

Centre Manager Andrew Berkeley said the newest addition would be a shake-up for the centre which still maintains many of its 1980s features.

He said as part of the changes a new lift would be built from the parking lot to the main floor; something that shoppers had been calling for.

New bathrooms will also be finished in the coming weeks.

It won’t only be the inside that will be getting a new look with the exterior also getting a makeover.

Painters are set to begin giving the building a new color from next week to reflect a more modern look.

The Leader announced the closure of Coles last year with readers taking to Facebook to reveal what they would like to see at the site.

Eddie Pietrzak voiced his support for a new Aldi store.

‘’Aldi is the most likeliest shop to bring customers through the front doors,’’ he commented.

‘’I have on many occasions chased that elusive catalogue item sold out in other nearby stores by midday Wednesday or Saturdays.’’

Michelle Saliba agreed.

‘’Aldi please,’’ she said.
