A community play date has been planned at the former Oatley Bowling Club site on Thursday ahead of a decision on its future.
The Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel will meet at the site from 1pm before holding a meeting at the Council chamber on whether to approve sending a planning proposal to reclassify the land to the Department of Planning and Environment for gateway review.
Last November, Georges River Council decided to proceed with a proposal to reclassify the site from community land to operational and to rezone part of the the site to SP2 Infrastructure for use of seniors housing and community facilities.
Oatley residents will meeting at the site from 1pm for a play date.
Community campaigner Melissa Derwent said it would be a good opportunity to show the potential for the space as a community garden and mini soccer fields.
‘‘With an increasing population in Sydney we need more recreational spaces and not less,’’ she said.
She is calling on Georges River Council and Member for Oatley Mark Coure to keep the community parkland as a community site.
