It was a dream come true for 10-year-old Tatum Pilcher when she was crowned as the ‘Junior Dancer of the Year’ at Australia’s biggest national dance championships.
Tatum, from Grays Point, joined more than 200 dancers from all over Australia and New Zealand to compete for the title.
The shire dancer also won herself a trip to Spain where she will compete in the ‘World Dance Movement’ competition representing Australia.
On Wednesday, Tatum will fly to Barcelona among a group of 12 other Australian and New Zealand dancers for the prestigious competition.
Tatum has lived and breathed dancing ever since she was four-years-old, when she began at K&V Dance Corp in Sutherland.
Principal of K&V Dance Corp Kellie Lee, said from a young age Tatum has been extremely hard working, and focused.
“She sight her sights on becoming Australia’s Dancer of the Year and worked really hard until she achieved her goal,” she said.
“I am very confident that she will do our studio and Australia proud.”
Peter Oxford is the founder and president of the Showcase and Hollywood Bound National Dance Championships, the largest and most innovative dance competition created in Australian and New Zealand history.
The competition, which is hailed as one of the most elite in the world sees over 11,000 acts performed annually.
He says this is the first time they have taken a group of winning dancers from Australia to compete in Barcelona.
“The experience will be not only memorable, but educational too,” Mr Oxford said.
