2nd Menai Girl Guides will be among thousands of volunteers collecting for the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal Doorknock on the weekend.
The unit’s leader Eleanor Hurt said service was “one of the fundamentals of Girl Guides”.
“I am proud my unit has chosen to support our local community by being part of this event,” she said.
Community groups, churches, scouts, guides, sporting groups and workplaces are providing volunteers for Australia’s biggest doorknock on the May 27-28 weekend.
However, more volunteers are needed. Call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) or register online at: salvos.org.au/volunteer
Heathcote MP Lee Evans is the zone chairman for the event.
Mr Evans said he was “honoured” when Major Glenn Whittaker asked him to take on the role.
Major Whittaker said, despite Australia being a wealthy country, the demand on Salvo services was greater than ever.
The gap between the “haves” and “have-nots” was growing, and Sutherland Shire was no exception, he said.
