The Sutherland Shire Spinners and Weavers are busy spinning, dyeing, weaving, knitting and crocheting in preparation for their annual Winter Wool Fair on June 2 and 3.
The Uniting Church hall at the corner of Merton and Flora st Sutherland will be overflowing with an amazing display of unique woollen creations that the members have been creating for exhibition and sale, with spinning and weaving displays all weekend.
There will also be traders offering other yarns, spinning and weaving supplies, including spindles, and craft books for sale
The club brings together people who wish to practise the art of hand spinning and weaving, and to arrange exhibitions with spinners, loom and tapestry weavers, felters, dyers, crocheters and knitters.
Home-grown fleece is spun to create wonderful garments and projects with knitting, crocheting, dyeing and weaving with an amazing variety of fibre craft/artworks, including woollen, silk, cotton, alpaca, soya, bamboo, cashmere and mohair creations.
Social media has brought the fibre arts to the notice of younger people,and the fibre arts are experiencing a resurgence of interest not seen since the 1970s and 1980s.
Shear it, spin it, knit it, weave it and wear it-is their passion.
Entry is free from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day and this year all money from raffle tickets sold goes to the Amelie House, a Women’s Refuge in the Sutherland Shire.
