Since Brisbane Lions defender Daniel Merrett retired from the AFL, the appeal of a five-minute commute to work at the Gabba isn't that important.
He's since taken up coaching and consulting roles with the AFLW and the NRL, which means the once-quick commute from 18 Dover Street, Hawthorne, has become a trek to Yeronga and Red Hill. Not to mention wife Sarah's teaching job in Ashgrove.
But it's not just that - the AFL great said the home was just far too big for himself, his wife, and daughter Matilda, 2.
"With the two levels, we only really use our top level," Merrett said. "We never really go downstairs."
Downstairs could be its own self-contained flat, complete with separate access, kitchen, and laundry. The Merretts toyed with the idea of renting the bottom half of the home out to some of the Women's Lion's players, given Merrett's new role. But, they decided to downsize and try out a different postcode.
"All our friends live on the west side," Mr Merrett said. "We might just rent for a bit to try out a few places and see what we like."
"We might end up missing the Hawthorne side of town, so we might end up moving back."
Though the Merretts will be free to try out what different areas of Brisbane have to offer, Merrett will miss a few things about his former home.
"It's a beautiful house, high ceilings, you can open the back and front doors and get this wicked breeze in the afternoons," he said. "It's a great house, I've probably taken it for granted."
"I loved the lack of maintenance; I'm terrible on the tools."
The house was built two years ago and has two years remaining on the builder's warranty, meaning the home's new owners would only have to call the builder to get any issues fixed up.
McGrath Bulimba's Paul Shelton is marketing the property, to go to auction on June 24.
