The 100th anniversary of the Lions Club International was celebrated locally with a dinner at the Conca D’Oro Lounge at Riverwood.
More than 120 people attended the dinner on Wednesday, June 7, 100 years to the day when Lions Club International was formed on June 7, 1917 by founder, Chicago businessman Melvin Jones in response to social problems created by World War I and rapid industrialisation.
Attending the 100th anniversary dinner at Riverwood were members of the local Lions Club N5 District which includes Kogarah Lions, which is the oldest Lions Club in NSW.
Members of Bankstown, Caringbah, Chatwood Business, Sydney Waratah, Lugarno, Oatley , St George Lions and Georges River Lioness also attended.
A special 100th Birthday cake was cut by Lions members Ken Nimmo, Dennis Halpin and Ray Cook.
Representatives from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Catherine Bell and Laurissa Creek joined Greg English, District Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Fund chairman.
Also attending were Banks MP David Coleman and Oatley MP Mark Coure.
