A medical professional working in Kogarah has won a top award as a sonographer.
Lisa Hackett, who works at George Murrell Shoulders in Kogarah, was recently named the Sonographer of the Year for NSW by the Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA).
The association held its annual conference in Brisbane earlier this month with more than 1000 people taking part.
Ms Hackett started out as a radiographer and was a pioneer in musculoskeletal ultrasound when it was first used in diagnosing conditions of the hand. Over the years, she has turned her focus to musculoskeletal sonography and has been working with Professor George Murrell for the past 10 years in Kogarah.
Her work helps diagnose conditions of the shoulder and choose the best surgical procedure for the patient.
Sonography is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce visual images of organs and tissue inside the body.
