There was a special visitor to the monthly St George Community Connections Hub held at the Kogarah Storehouse last Wednesday.
The community hub is a free service which provides information about local community services such as Centrelink, Housing NSW, Homelessness support services, Partners in Recovery and Nurses on Wheels.
Last week the famous Oz Harvest Food Truck visited cooking on-site for people attending the St George Community Hub.
Oz Harvest is a food rescue charity that collects excess food from hospitality outlets and supermarkets and uses it to feed the homeless and those in need.
The truck serves nutritious food created by the talented OzHarvest chefs, and runs nutrition education workshops to help educate people about food waste and how to live a healthy life.
The Kogarah Storehouse seemed like a natural destination of the OzHarvest Truck.
The Storehouse provides a weekly community morning tea and free lunch for about 60 people every Wednesday to the homeless, aged and those in need and up to 160 people at its monthly community hub, held on the third Wednesday of every month.
Storehouse manager Lala Noronha said the chefs of the OzHarvest Truck served 166 meals last Wednesday which were a great success.
It is hoped the OzHarvest Truck will return for the community hub at the Storehouse in August.
Located on the corner of Kensington and Gray streets, the Kogarah Storehouse is the mission outreach service run by the Brighton-Kogarah Congregation of the Uniting Church and has been providing welfare assistance in St George since 1992 and helps more than 2000 clients each year with emergency relief and food packages and electricity vouchers.
