Three siblings are training up to run the City2Surf from Sydney city to Bondi in memory of their late sister.
Susan Boonstra, Sandy Sullivan and Will Thompson will take part in the event for the third year running on August 13, raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Devastated after seeing their two sisters Cath and Jen diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks apart, the trio felt compelled to join the event in 2015.
“We were devastated that it could strike both our sisters within such a short period,” Susan, from Yowie Bay, said.
Sadly, Cath passed away prior to the siblings completing their first City2Surf in 2015.
In 2016, the siblings ran the event again and their sister Jen, who was going through treatment at the time, cheered them on at the finish line.
To date the trio have raised over $14,000 for Team NBCF and they hope to raise a further $5000 from the 2017 event.
“Last year I was overwhelmed by the support I got, not only from my family and friends but from people I had never met,” Susan said.
“Losing another sister to breast cancer is not an option. I am running in memory of Cathryn and with hope in my heart for Jen.”
