Rockdale City survived a scare against Sydney Olympic on Sunday, earning a 0-0 draw at the Belmore Sports Ground.
Olympic striker Radovan Pavicevic hit the post with a penalty after half an hour and Niko Tsattalios missed a chance in front of an empty net as the Suns held on to remain fourth in the NPL with a game in hand.
Toufic Alameddine was dangerous for Rockdale and regularly beat his defender out wide but the winger could not find the right final ball, while Blake Ricciuto went inches away from stealing the lead for the Suns when his header sailed narrowly over the cross bar.
Rockdale player-coach Paul Reid praised the effort of his players.
“The boys can definitely hold their heads up high after that performance. We had a bit of luck go our way with Olympic missing a few clear-cut chances but overall it thought we did well to hang on,” he said.
“We had a few chances of our own but to come away with a point from this match is a good result.
“We are playing below our best at the moment and we really need to return to where we were at earlier in the year. We still have a game in hand and only three points behind third place so we are still very much in the mix.”
