Plans to widen King Georges Road between Stoney Creek Road, Beverly Hills and Connells Point Road, South Hurstville are being progressed.
However, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is giving little away away as to how this will be achieved and whether houses will need to be acquired
A sum of $2.9 million was allocated in the budget to continue the project.
“The design for the proposed widening of King Georges Road as part of the $300 million Gateway to the South pinch point program is at the strategic development stage,” a spokesman said.
“Activities during this time include planning and investigation work, such as traffic modelling and site surveys.
“Community consultation will start on the proposed design following the completion of the strategic development phase, which will include a number of design options.
“The strategic business case is expected to be completed in early 2018.”
OTHER ROAD PROJECTS
Funding for other road projects in St George was also allocated in the state budget:
Proposed traffic improvements at the intersection of Princes Highway at President Avenue, Kogarah, will be made through a $1.5 million budget allocation.
The RMS spokesman said the proposed improvements involved lengthening the right and left turn lanes from President Avenue on to Princes Highway, lengthening the right turn lane east-bound on to President Avenue and building a dedicated left turn lane from President Avenue on to Princes Highway.
Right turns from President Avenue into Princes Highway north-bound will be disallowed during the week between 3pm and 7pm to improve traffic through peak hours,” he said.
Only $14.1 million was allocated for the F6 project, identified as the WestConnex Southern F6 extension, to continue planning.
An allocation of $5.3 million was made for new on and off ramps for the M5 motorway at Riverwood, with an expected completion date of 2019.
A sum of $117 million was allocated to continue major road upgrades around Sydney Airport.
The budget provided planning money for a new commuter car park at Beverly Hills train station, but there was no indication of a starting date.
