Rockdale Library will celebrate its one-year anniversary this month with a day of activities.
The festivities will have an ‘enviro’ theme with activities and giveaways for the whole family.
On the day there will be a special story time for kids, face painting, an under the sea display that lets you can hold live sea animals, a visit by IWEST Interactive Sustainability Trailer and the Arncliffe Men’s Shed Fix-It Van.
Bayside Council Administrator Greg Wright said the library had been a big hit since it opened last year.
‘’The multi-award winning Rockdale Library has become very popular community space since it opened,” he said.
“I would like to thank the staff responsible for the day-today running of the library that has seen it become the well-loved community space that it is today.”
Since it opened more than 273,904 people have walked through the doors with an average of 1400 visitors daily.
In the last 10 months the library has had 5843 new users and over 254,795 items borrowed.
The new library sits on the site of the old temporary library which was demolished.
As part of the changes new books have been bought so people have access to all their favourite reads and new technology has replaced the old computers with users now able to search the collection, download an eBook, and renew and reserve items online.
There is also an interactive space for children and a local history space.
