More than 1000 people are expected to take part the Starlight Foundation Charity Spin Rides at Fitness First Rockdale, Cronulla and Sylvania this month to raise money for seriously ill children and their families.
Called RideForSarah, the inaugural event last year was dedicated to nine-year-old Sarah who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, and is currently in remission.
This year the fund-raiser is also dedicated to Sarah’s friends who still hospitalised at the Oncology Unit at Randwick Children’s Hospital and suffering serious illnesses.
“Last year we raised $10,000 for Starlight and this year we hope to raise even more to help the lives of seriously ill children in hospital,” RideForSarah organiser Karryn Vanzino said.
“On Saturday, July 22 we are holding a three-hour indoor spin cycle event, consisting of six 30-minute spin classes running back to back, at Fitness First Cronulla and Fitness First Rockdale.
“On Saturday, July 29 we are holding a six-hour indoor spin cycle event, consisting of 12 30-minutes spin classes, at Fitness First Sylvania.
“I will be riding for the full three-hour and six-hour rides alongside eight different instructors running 30min classes back to back.
“Non Fitness First Members are welcome, cost is a $5 donation for each class and you can book in for as many classes as they like.”
To raise money for Starlight RideForSarah organisers are selling $2 stars labelled with the names of each of those seriously ill children.
Members will also be able to write a message of inspiration and hope on the stars, which will be presented to the children in hospital along with our Fundraising cheque.
“At the end of each 30-minute class we will be auctioning prizes and holding the $2 prize draw,” Karryn said.
“We are seeking donations from local business of vouchers, merchandise pack, tickets that we can use as auction items or prizes for the $2 Star draw.
“We have already received generous donations from Cronulla Surfing Academy, Sealevel Restaurant, Sharks Leagues Club, The Tradies, BMW Sylvania, and Summersalt Restaurant.”
Sarah’s parents have insisted that all proceeds go directly to the Starlight Children’s Foundation who have provided overwhelming support to their family and continue to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families whilst they are in hospital.
