Georges River Council has donated $10,000 to the Cancer Care Centre at St George Hospital.
The Cancer Care Centre Foundation was established in 1995 to improve local cancer care services and enhance the centre.
Since then the community, along with government support, have raised $15 million.
The foundation’s next project is to make the chemotherapy area more spacious and appealing and is aiming to have 19 new chemotherapy chairs for patients.
To achieve this Georges River Council has donated $10,000 for naming rights for the chairs.
Cancer Care Centre Foundation Public Officer Phill Bates said he was delighted with the donation.
“Georges River Council has continued on with the outstanding support provided by the former Kogarah and Hurstville Councils by funding a new chemotherapy chair for the centre,” he said.
“The centre has entered the final stage of the enhancement of the cancer centre, this time with the expansion of the Haematology and Oncology Day Centre to allow more specific bedrooms, more clinician rooms and a spacious chemotherapy area that will allow more than double the number of chemotherapy chairs.
"The community support provided over the years will ensure that the Cancer Care Centre is one of the finest in the country and will be able to cope with the increasing demand in the future.’’
