St George Commander Superintendent Mark Walton has been named as one of five new assistant commissioners.
He has been promoted to the new position of NSW Police Assistant Commissioner, Region Commander, Central Metropolitan Region.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller on Thursday announced five new assistant commissioners and three new commands as part of the re-engineering of the NSW Police Force.
The four other new assistant commissioners include Superintendent Kyle Stewart, Superintendent Joe Cassar, Superintendent Tony Crandell and Superintendent Karen Webb.
Commissioner Fuller said the new assistant commissioners bring a dynamic mix of youth, investigative, operational and corporate experience across regional and metropolitan NSW and specialist commands.
“These five diverse individuals have decades of experience across all areas of policing and bring new focus, energy and ideas to the executive level of the NSW Police Force,” he said.
“The new assistant commissioners will help shape the future of the organisation in this evolving environment, ensuring our focus remains on community service, disruption and prevention of crime and responding to incidents.
“The appointments are another step in the re-engineering process of NSW Police, enhancing the capability of the current structure into more dynamic commands.’’
Superintendent Walton joined the NSW Police Force in 1984 as a general duties officer in Kogarah and in investigations at Rockdale, before becoming the Commander of the Redfern and Eastern Suburbs local area commands.
He was named as St George Commander in 2015.
The five new Assistant Commissioners will take up their positions from August 1.
