Victims of domestic violence will be the ultimate beneficiaries of an extension of office space in a council-owned building at Jannali.
Not-for-profit community organisation, Sutherland Shire Family Services (SSFS), provides services from the offices in Soldiers Road.
Capital Bluestone, which is developing Woolooware Bay Town Centre, funded and co-ordinated the building project.
Sutherland Shire mayor Carmelo Pesce and managing director of Capital Bluestone, Ben Fairfax, were among those who attended the official opening of the expanded facilities on Friday.
SSFS chief executive officer Diane Manns said, prior to the work, a counselling room had to be used for office space.
Ms Manns said more than 165 families were being assisted at any one time, so it was important the counselling room be freed up.
In addition, SSFS had recently been awarded another state government domestic violence contract, and more office space would be available for the required extra staff.
“We are so grateful to Capital Bluestone,” Ms Manns said.
“They absolutely understand the depth of need we have, and have put a large amount of money on the table for us.
“But, it’s not just about the money – they genuinely believe in the work that we’re doing and that is quite unique.”
Capital Bluestone began supporting SSFS in 2015 and helped host the inaugural Community and Business Leader’s Luncheon, which raised more than $45,000.
Mr Fairfax said the company was committed to continuing to assist SSFS’s growth and ability to deliver services.
“By partnering with SSFS, we want to help bring about positive change by raising awareness of these issues with our residents, staff, entire project team and the wider shire,” he said.
Shire building companies, Cowan Built Constructions and GapComm, were contracted to build and fit-out the office extension.
