Rare and collectable Australiana pottery will be on exhibit at the 2nd Annual Australian Pottery Market Day, to be held at Gymea Tradies this Sunday.
This year, the Australian Pottery Market Day has expanded to include some of the best-known collectors of Australian Pottery.
Amongst the items for sale will be an extensive range of Australian pottery dating from early 1900s to today.
The day will feature pottery by Gymea Pottery, Bendigo Pottery, Martin Boyd Pottery, Castle-Harris and the Mashman’s Pottery of Kingsgrove, market organiser Michael Vardakis said.
“Some pieces were made in the Sutherland Shire in 1950s,” he said.
“Highlights include a 1940s koala from the Bendigo Pottery, a 1920s bowl with frog from the Disabled Soldiers’ Pottery of Redfern, two 1930s teapots from the Ricketts pottery, and two electric kettle jugs from the 1940s.”
Overall, there will be 20 exhibitors with each table carrying some rare pieces.
The Port Hacking potters group will be present along with curator of the Australian Pottery Museum, Geoff Ford.
Authors Kevin Power who is an expert on Campbell Pottery, and Paul Bisby, an expert in Derbyshire Pottery will be on hand to provide information.
“Visitors will be able to bring some of their pieces for Sale and Swap,” Mr Vardakis said.
“Perhaps you have a piece you would like to know more about,” he said.
“There will be plenty of Collectors on-hand to provide information. As a nice end to the day Hazelhurst Art Gallery is just down the road.”
There will be gold coin donation upon entry.
