Rockdale City head into their toughest match of the season buoyed by a lucky escape against Bonnyrigg on Sunday.
An Alec Urosevski double helped Rockdale down the White Eagles 2-1 at the Ilinden Sports Centre, keeping the Suns in third place on the NPL table with three rounds remaining.
Harris Gaitatzis had a penalty saved for Rockdale but the Suns were left indebted to goalkeeper Ante Covic who produced a string of fine saves to keep Bonnyrigg at bay.
Rockdale will now turn their attention to the challenge of facing runaway leaders Blacktown City away from home on Sunday.
Blacktown were upset by Manly United on Saturday night, falling to just their second defeat of the season. It sets up an interesting round of fixtures which will go a long way to deciding the finals make up with the top six all playing each other.
Rockdale player-coach Paul Reid said the win over Bonnyrigg was a lucky escape for his side.
“It was just one of those games. We were lucky and took the lead when I don't think we really deserved to be in front but we fought hard and managed to stay in the match after they equalised,” he said.
“We knew we didn't play well in the first half but I told the boys to stay composed and when the match opened up in the second half we were able to find a match winner.
“At this time of the season it’s not about playing pretty. It’s about getting the three points and that’s exactly what we did today.”
Meanwhile, a young Sutherland side fell 3-0 to Wollongong on Sunday.

Two Peter Simonoski goals inside the opening 20 minutes had the Wolves in control before a Yuzo Tashiro penalty sealed the result on the hour mark.
Sutherland coach Grant Lee rued his side’s lapses in concentration.
“[It was the] story of our season,” he said.
“We went to sleep and didn’t deal with situations. We were then chasing it and were hapless.”
The Sharks remain in 10th place. Sutherland host Sydney FC at Seymour Shaw Park on Saturday night.
