The Hurstville Ladies Probus Club has been busy with their annual winter knitting campaign.
For the past 25 years, the Ladies Probus Club members and their friends have knitted and crocheted in preparation for winter.
This year they produced 90 rugs, 60 beanies and 50 scarves which they donated to St George domestic violence service and their networks.
“Domestic and family violence causes considerable disruption to the lives of Australian families, with many affected seeking alternative accommodation and often falling into homelessness, some even sleeping and living in cars,” a Hurstville Ladies Probus Club spokeswoman said.
“Domestic and family violence makes women and children vulnerable to homelessness in two major ways. Firstly, violence removes the sense of safety and belonging associated with the home.
“Secondly, leaving a violent situation usually requires leaving the family home.”
The Hurstville Ladies Probus Club meets every second Wednesday of the month in the auditorium at Penshurst RSL.
“We not only listen to speakers and go on outings, we enjoy contributing to the community,” the spokeswoman said.
