Work will begin in September to create 100 new car parks at St George Hospital.
Two more levels, including 100 car parks, will be added to the existing four-storey parking building on Gray St – next to the hospital’s emergency department.
The extra parking will come as a breath of fresh air for many people including parents at a nearby school.
Car parks are often at a premium along Gray St in Kogarah, as well as along nearby roads Chapel St and Short St.
St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School and the soon-to-be-completed St Patrick's Green retirement facility are located just around the corner from the emergency department, making it a busy area.
South Eastern Sydney Local Health District director Cath Whitehurst said the new parking was part of the $277 million redevelopment of St George Hospital.
“The $277 million redevelopment of St George Hospital is progressing well with the Acute Services Building [also on Gray St] in the final stages of construction, with handover from the builders to the hospital expected to occur in October 2017,” she said.
“In addition, the Gray St car park will be expanded to provide another two levels of parking. This will deliver in excess of 100 new car parking spaces. Expansion of the Gray St car park will commence in September 2017, with completion scheduled for early 2018.”
