It’s called the Tasty Bite café and the brains behind the popular Caringbah lunch shop are husband and wife duo, Joseph and Pennie Sawan.
The pair have been running the café for five years and recently, the shop has introduced a novel idea; a bookshelf where customers can take part in a book exchange.
“The idea is just like the community library concept ,to swap a book in exchange for another. By returning the book it allows someone else to enjoy the story.”Pennie said
“ Two of my great loves are literature and food. If I can bring both to my customers, that brings me a great deal of satisfaction and I love the idea because it reminds people to slow down and enjoy their lunch hour.”
Books, are not the only thing on the menu in the busy Industrial cafe, with customers coming in to devour their locally famous chicken tenderloins, their wraps and burgers.
“We put a lot of love in all the food we make” said Joseph.
They open every weekday morning at 5am and prepare the shop ahead of the morning coffee rush as workers stand in line for a taste of their premium Genovese coffee.
Aside from the excellent service and food that the team serve up daily, the pair also offer up a great chat and encourage customers to take a book to read.
“We jump on any chance to keep things fresh and exciting in our shop. We love giving people something to talk about,” said Pennie.
This new concept will see them continuing to feed the bellies and the books will feed the brains.
