Commuters should continue to allow extra travel time due to urgent signal equipment repairs at Sutherland and an earlier fatality at Tempe.
Buses are supplementing some trains between Cronulla and Sutherland in both directions. Allow extra travel time.
Trains are now departing from Tempe. There are still major flow on delays so people should continue to allow extra travel time.
NSW Police said the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
There are major disruptions on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line and South Coast Line following a fatality at Tempe this morning.
Citybound trains are not stopping at Wolli Creek, so anyone needing to travel to Wolli Creek will need to travel to Central and change for a service back to Wolli Creek.
Major Delays due to a fatality at Tempe. A shuttle train service will commence operating between Sutherland and Cronulla.— T4 Sydney Trains (@T4SydneyTrains) August 8, 2017
Shuttle trains are running back and forth between Sutherland and Cronulla and between Bondi Junction and Central.
Stopping patterns will change so passengers already travelling should listen to announcements and check indicator boards.
Matthew Wallace said he ended up calling his boss to see if he could work from home because of the long delays at Sutherland.
‘’I was waiting for 10 minutes and when our train came to platform one there was a lot of confusion as the indicator signs were saying the train will terminate but there was no other advice,’’ he said.
‘’There was two to three minutes of no movement then the train guard came over the train telling us it would terminate.’’
He said he boarded another train with revised stops but it was again terminated at Hurstville.
He made the call to his boss to work from home after hearing about the long delays.
A commuter on the Illawarra line said the city-bound platform at Hurstville was 15 people deep when the train arrived.
“People were urged to move deep into the carriages and told there were ‘unknown delays’ to travel times,” he told the Leader.
“No trains were stopping at Wolli Creek, and commuters told to catch a train back from the city to the airport.”
Commuters are being advised to delay their travel or sort different arrangements if possible.
