Sutherland police have issued a warning after a spate of car break-ins across the area.
In recent weeks, a number of motor vehicles have been targeted at night with various items being stolen.
While break-ins are being reported across the Sutherland Shire, thieves are predominantly targeting cars in the Oyster Bay and Heathcote areas.
Sutherland police are reminding people to lock their cars with some items being stolen from unlocked vehicles.
They have some tips to help reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim.
That includes:
• Remove the ignition keys and lock car doors and windows;
• Take everything of value from your car each time you leave it;
• Avoid parking in dimly lit or isolated areas;
• Remove any documents in your vehicle which identify where you live as your home might be the thieves’ next target;
• Don’t hide any spare keys inside or under your vehicle – thieves know where to look;
• Engrave or mark your valuable power tools with your licence number.
Anyone with information should contact Sutherland police station on 9542 0899.
