The NSW SES Southern Sydney unit have been called to dozens of calls for help as strong winds lash the region.
Since 9am the unit has been called to more than 70 jobs including fallen trees and roof damage.
Woronora Road at Oatley has been closed after trees were brought down.
Winds reached 83 km/h at Sydney Airport at 10.44am while nearby Kurnell has had 96 km/h winds.
Flights are already being affected and passengers are being encouraged to check with airlines.
The winds also left around 43,000 home and businesses across the Sutherland Shire without power with Kirrawee and Cronulla the worst affected.
By 1pm power had been restored to most homes.
Power is still out in parts of Bexley and Bardwell Park.
The wind has also affected shire roads with chaos around the Kingsway at Westfield Miranda
Kiri Purdy said it was taking a long time to get out of the shopping centre car park after panelling was stripped off a building in Jackson Avenue.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were at the scene to remove the panelling from the road and secure the building.
The roof on the Lounges Plus showroom on Taren Point Road at Caringbah was blown off but no one was seriously injured.
Traffic lights are also flashing yellow at Forest Road, Bexley.
Train services have also been delayed on the Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line after a power disruption at Hurstville.
People should allow for extra time and check indicator boards.
