Oatley Public School is calling on past students and friends of the school to take part in a gala dinner to celebrate its centenary.
The school is holding two big events this year to celebrate its 100th birthday.
The school has planned a gala dinner and open day on Friday, September 8, with tickets still available, as well as a huge fete on November 4.
The gala dinner is being held at Doltone House in Sylvania Waters and tickets are $90. Past students, parents, teachers and staff are also being invited to a school open day on September 8 from 9.30am to 1pm.
A former Oatley Public School pupil Paul Farrell, the winner of the 2017 Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year Award, is among the guest speakers for the gala dinner.
One of the oldest-known, past students from the school Enid Carter, 101, (nee Britt) visited the school recently to have a look around the school grounds. She spent a day with students and shared her memories of writing on a chalkboard. Enid talked of her time walking through dense bush land with her four brothers to get to school.
Thousands of students like Enid and her brothers have attended Oatley Public School since it opened in 1917 with just one classroom. The school now has 535 students.
