Legacy is asking Australians to dig deep during Legacy Week, August 27 to September 1, to support families of veterans who have given their lives or health.
Legacy grew out of the ashes of World War I and has been supporting veterans’ families for more than 90 years.
Today, Legacy is supporting widows of World War I veterans, tens of thousands of widows of World War II veterans and the families of those who have served in conflict or peace keeping operations since.
There is an increasing number of young families turning to Legacy for help as they attempt to keep their lives on course as their veteran spouse or parent deals with their personal ravages of active service or other serious issues.
Legacy provides practical, emotional and financial support to families of Australian Defence Force personnel who have given their lives or health.
“Legacy is here to make sure the families of Australian Defence Force personnel are not disadvantaged because of the death or injury of a partner or parent,” chairman of the St George Sutherland Division of Legacy, Graham Boyd said.
“Every time a service man or woman deploys, their family is also at risk. When veterans’ families bear the consequences of their service Legacy is here to help.
“Our servicemen and women must always know that should they lose their lives or health in the course of their duty, the rest of Australia will look after their families through Legacy.”
“We ask everyone to think about the families left behind and ask that you support them in any way you can.
“Locally we are still supporting around 1,500 Widows, children and veteran’s dependents with a disability and need the generous support from the public.”
