Ed Sheeran may not know it yet but planning for his visit to Sutherland Shire is well underway.
Ed has a place to eat, plenty of fresh fruit, Uber transport and even a free dental check-up.
Now, all he has to do is accept the invitation.
Sutherland Shire community radio station 2SSR 99.7 FM have launched a campaign to lure the superstar to the shire.
Called ‘Sheeran in the shire’ the campaign is being run by four local primary school teachers who also have their own radio show.
Teachers Brett James and Bryan Grose of Loftus Public School, Tom Westwood of Woronora River Public School and Christine Rigava of Padstow Public School present their show Bumper2Bumper every Wednesday night from 6pm to 8pm.
The Bumper2Bumper presenters have set themselves a tall task.
“We are hopeful for luring Ed Sheeran to come to our little studio inside the Gymea College of TAFE to give us an interview when he tours here next March (2018),” presenter Brett James said.
The idea came from a regular segment on the show called Six Degrees of Separation where the Bumper2Bumper presenters do a call-out on Facebook to all their listeners asking who would be the greatest interview they would like to hear on the program.
“The biggest response was for Ed Sheeran,” Brett said. “His concert had just gone on sale and immediately sold-out and we thought it was a shame that Ed wouldn’t be coming to the shire.
“Many people have said we can't get Ed but I am of the belief that if you don't ask you don’t get.
“We have purchased and launch a website http://www.sheeranintheshire.com.au and each week we are playing one hour of Ed Sheeran music and doing segments based on and around Ed Sheeran until Ed agrees to come and join us in studio.
“We have a segment on our show called ‘What would Ed like to do in the shire?’
“We have a local cafe what has offered to feed him. A local grocery store has offered to give him a box of fruit. One of our female listeners is an Uber driver and has offered to drive him around. Even the local dentist has offered to give him a fresh check-up and clean.
“We have a co-ordinated social media campaign with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and we now have got a contact with the his management.
“So we are very, very, very hopeful.”
