Woolooware High School has celebrated its 50th anniversary by going without technology for a day.
“We tried to make it a no technology day today,” deputy principal Russell McDougall said.
“Unfortunately all our chalk boards have been moved out of the school, but we didn’t use our smart boards or calculators or cell phones.”
He said the idea was to go back to what it was like when the school was first built in 1967.
The school also held a full school assembly to celebrate its 50th anniversary today.
“We had speeches from ex-pupils that we pre-recorded and played during assembly,” he said.
“We also had a different sixties song play every time the bell went.”
Staff were encouraged to dress up in 1960s outfits and musicians from the school also performed hits from that decade during assembly.
Mr McDougall said past principals who visited the school often remarked that it had a similar culture to the old days, which was nice to hear.
“They say it still has the same great feel about the place.”
More than 1000 students currently attend the high school.
