A baby possum had a narrow escape after it was rescued by a good samaritan at Menai last week.

Dash cam footage show the driver approaching the intersection of Old Illawarra Road and Menai Road just after 4pm on Sunday.

As he slows down he notices a baby possum stranded on the road being pestered by two crows.

As the light changes he inches forward hoping to scare the two birds off.

As they start to move closer the motorist jumps from his car shooing the birds away.

He picks the possum up before it quickly scampers up his arm and perches on his shoulder.

He walks to a nearby tree before the possum jumps off and to safety.
