They may have only been around a short while but St George Swimming Club’s juniors have already achieved some impressive results.
The newly merged club, which only held its inaugural club night last month, saw its swimmers compete in 69 individual events and two relays at the Swimming NSW state under-12s and state 13-years and over short course championships recently.
At the state age 13-18 years titles, Brendan Ding picked up one first, one second and one third-placed finish and was in the top 10 for four of his events. Sienna Elphinston also picked up a first and third place and was top 10 in three events.
Ding has also been selected to represent NSW at the Swimming Australia state teams short course championships at the AIS starting on Friday.
St George Swimming Club president Todd McHardy paid tribute to the young athletes and thanked the club’s coaching staff.
“Our swimmers are training hard to make their national times thanks to the tremendous, untiring effort of our swimming coaches Sharon Gregory, George Varvaressos, Scott Featherstone and gym coach Chris Bartels,” he said.
Hurstville, Rockdale and Breakers swimming clubs joined together to form the new entity based at the new Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre, Bexley.
The club are now in full training for NSW long course and Australian age national championships to be held in April.
