3Bridges Community will showcase its dementia awareness project this weekend as part Dementia Awareness Month.
‘I’m Still Here’ was designed to destigmatise dementia and offer support to people living with dementia, their carers, and families, in culturally diverse communities.
The project involved working with members of the local Indian, Nepalese, Greek and Chinese communities, as well as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Together with professional facilitators, community members produced plays and radio podcasts in a range of languages. There was also art journaling workshops for seniors and a series of information sharing sessions.
Project Coordinator Pat Cranney said the project was a great success.
‘’What a great success to be part of a move to destigmatise dementia and help reduce the feelings of shame sometimes associated with this disease, people need to know there’s support out there.”
To celebrate a free showcase will be held in Hurstville on Saturday.
It will include video highlights and a live performance of the I’m Still Here play in Hindi and English.
There will also be a Chinese singalong and an Indian-inspired afternoon tea.
