Two Sutherland Sharks juniors have squared off during the opening round of the A-League season.
Goalkeepers Tommy Glover (Central Coast Mariners) and Jack Duncan (Newcastle Jets) went up against each other in round one – having both come through the Sutherland Sharks junior system.
It was a tough night for A-League debutant Glover and his Mariners team mates losing the match 5-1.
Glover, 19, is on loan from English giants Tottenham Hotspur – where he trained alongside the likes of Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm.
Meanwhile, Duncan, 23, was at the Jets last season and has also played for Perth Glory.
Former Sutherland Sharks goalkeeper coach Ron Tilsed worked with both players during their time at the club. He said it was great to see them up against one another in the A-League.
“Tommy started out in the A-League with a tough night but he was not really at fault,” he said.
“It’s just great to see footballers out of the shire doing well. Australia has a great name for producing keepers, with the likes of Mark Schwarzer and Mark Bosnich.”
