A recent study from University British Columbia and Harvard Business School found that the gift of time is much more beneficial to your overall lifestyle than receiving material goods or luxuries.
On-demand home services firm, UrbanYou, commissioned further research that found:
- Relationships: 43 per cent said they were more likely to have sex with their partner if they didn't have to do the chores;
- Health: A quarter of Aussies said they felt depressed as a result of not being able to do the chores and having a messy home as a result; and
- Work: 83 per cent of Australians reported being stressed at work, resulting in more than half claiming they were too caught up and pressured with their job to do chores and only 12 per cent of Australians feel their current employer supports their needs at home.
UrbanYou co-founder Elke Keeley said it's no surprise that the study has found that investing in freeing up your time is the key to happiness.
"We have found that nearly a quarter of Australians saying that they’ve had a fight with their partner because chores are overlooked and they’re left with a messy home,” she said.
"Even in the bedroom, our research found that almost half of the people surveyed would enjoy a better sex life if they didn't have to do the chores.”
