Caringbah South resident Yvonne Vickers was probably a bit nervous when she had lunch with one of Australia’s top restaurateurs, Luke Mangan onboard P&O’s Pacific Explorer cruise ship recently.
In fact, the tables were turned when the famous chef served Yvonne one of her own recipes.
An avid traveller, Yvonne recently won an exclusive trip on P&O’s Pacific Explorer after taking part in a ‘Build a Burger’ competition, judged by Luke.
The competition was part of the launch of P&O’s new casual al fresco outlet Luke’s on Pacific Explorer, designed to serve guests innovative gourmet burgers.
P&O gave passengers the opportunity to design their ultimate burger, judged and personally selected by Luke, considered one of the country’s top culinary experts.
Not only did Yvonne win a trip for two, her winning burger will be rolled out on the menu of LM Chicken Confidential restaurants as well as Luke's on-board menu.
Her winning recipe was the Japanese Fried Chicken Burger.
Called the ‘Karaage Kid’, her burger featured wasabi coleslaw and fried chicken marinated in mirin, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and dipped in sesame seeds for an extra crunch.
Yvonne was was actually cruising on Pacific Explorer X734 when she received the call from Luke’s HQ.
She already had two other cruises booked and now thanks to her award-winning burger, she now has a third cruise on her itinerary.
For her efforts, Yvonne was able to enjoy chef Luke Mangan serving her competition-winning Japanese Fried Chicken Burger at Luke’s poolside grill on Pacific Explorer’s top deck.
