There was nothing but smiles all round at Wagga’s Community Blitz as the team gave a helping hand to a childcare centre in need.
For Matt Carvosso – seeing a child’s face light was just the start of a long list of reasons to stay involved with the hard-working team.
During his first blitz at the weekend, Mr Carvosso said he wanted to get involved to be part of something special and give back to the community.
Tradesman, families and children pulled together for a busy weekend transforming the yard, with a new playground, veggie patch, a repainted cubby house, seat and sandpit at the Shaw Street Children’s Centre.
“I’m hoping to get back here tomorrow to see even more of the kids reactions,” Mr Carvosso said.
“As soon as they walked through the door it was like a whole new world for them.
“It’s been so worthwhile to watch them taking it all in.”
Mr Carvosso said he, along with the team’s youngest member Skye Knight, hoped to stay on board for the next blitz.
Educator Lisa Quirk said it was important for the children and staff to have a space they can be proud of.
“It’s just amazing to see so many people helping – we are all so grateful,” she said.
“It’s been hard to get enrollments and money together, we can’t even describe what it means to us.”
