Students of Cronulla High School have presented Cancer Council NSW with a cheque for $43,000 from their fundraising efforts at the 2017 Sutherland Shire Relay For Life.
Relay For Life is the world’s largest movement against cancer and hosted in 26 countries.
Sutherland Shire Relay For Life (Shire Relay) is one of the largest Relay For Life events in New South Wales.
Shire Relay offers the community the chance to join forces in support of everyone affected by cancer, have fun at a community festival and raise vital funds for Cancer Council NSW.
The 2017 was held on May 6 and 7 at Don Lucas Reserve, Wanda Beach in Cronulla.
Cronulla High School were the highest fundraising team at the 2017 event, with a total of 90 registered participants.
Shire Relay co-chairs, Rod Coy and Luke Barbuto, attended the school’s assembly on September 8 and congratulated the students for their incredible efforts.
Rashmi Naran from Cancer Council NSW also attended to thank the students and inform them about how their fundraising will make a difference for people affected by cancer.
“The money raised from Cronulla High School will help fund Cancer Council NSW’s world- class research, prevention and advocacy programs, and information and support services for Southern Sydney residents affected by cancer,” Mrs Naran said.
We are so appreciative of the school’s efforts at the 2017 Shire Relay and are looking forward to seeing them again at next year’s event.
“The Shire Relay team has now recruited two students onto the volunteer organising committee who will be managing the activities over the 2018 weekend event,” she said.
