Edmund Capon, former director of the Art Gallery of NSW and Patron of Hazelhurst Gallery will be hosting a special evening at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery on Thursday, November 2 to give his insights into the works in the gallery’s current European Old Masters exhibition.
Featuring works from the Art Gallery of NSW’s permanent collection, the European Old Masters: 16th – 19th Century the exhibition includes 25 classic works from the High Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Romantic periods.
The exhibition is showing at Hazelhurst until December 3.
It is the first time many of these important European paintings have been shown together outside the Art Gallery of NSW.
Many of the works in the exhibition were acquired or purchased by Edmund Capon during his 33 years as Director at the AGNSW.
Guests can enjoy a glass of wine and canapés before Mr Capon, who is one of Australia’s most respected and recognisable figures in the arts, gives a special tour.
Mr Capon is an acknowledged expert in Chinese art and culture and was responsible for the rebuilding of the Asian galleries which opened in 2003.
His three-part documentary The Art of Australia, co-produced for the BBC and ABCTV, premiered in 2013.
Mr Capon's involvement with the Hazelhurst goes back well before its to official opening in 2000 and includes judging the first Hazelhurst Art Award in 2001 and marking the gallery’s 10th anniversary in 2010.
