Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath and wife Sara McGrath will take part in the New York Marathon in November as they look to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
But first the couple will test their lungs and legs at Wanda Beach during the Jane McGrath Classic.
The annual Jane McGrath Classic is a beach run being held at 7am on Sunday, October 29. It is open to runners and walkers alike across a 2.5km course.
It is one of three events on offer during the Jock Athletic Running Festival at Wanda Beach – which will also feature a gruelling 6km event and shorter 400m relay.
All money raised through the Jane McGrath Classic will be donated to the McGrath’s New York Marathon effort. The couple hope to raise $30,000 for the McGrath Foundation by running the New York Marathon.
The McGrath Foundation was co-founded by cricket legend McGrath and his late wife Jane McGrath, who died in 2008 following battles with cancer.
The McGrath Foundation now funds 118 breast care nurses in communities right across Australia, mostly in regional and rural areas where such treatment may be hard to find.
