60 seconds could mean life or death for premature babies
The deaths of tens of thousands of premature babies could be prevented with a simple technique that takes just 60 seconds at birth, a new study shows.
Researchers at the University of Sydney have found that delaying the clamping of a premature baby's umbilical cord by 60 seconds can dramatically increase its chances of survival. Read more
Sydney teenager charged over Halloween party brawl
A teenager has been charged following a brawl at a Halloween party in Gladesville on the weekend that left a teenage boy in hospital fighting for his life with critical head injuries.
NSW Police arrested a 17-year-old male at a home in Buffalo Road at Ryde on Monday and charged him with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm. Read more
NBN complaints on the rise as consumers opt for slower internet speeds
Less than half of those able to join the National Broadband Network have done so and those who have joined are accessing it at some of the lowest speeds available, a draft report released on Monday by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission shows.
The NBN is available to 6.2 million Australian premises but only 3 million of those have migrated to an NBN plan. Read more.

Campbelltown couple win lottery
One Campbelltown couple have half a million reasons to be happy on their wedding anniversary – they’ve won the lottery!
The couple – who wish to remain anonymous – are planning “the most beautiful wedding anniversary ever” after their shock win in the weekend’s Lotto Strike draw.
The couple were the only division one winners on Saturday, taking home a prize of $539,650.85. Read more.
ATO $4.2 billion short of budget revenue target
The Australian Tax Office has fallen short of budget revenue targets by $4.2 billion, its 2017 annual report shows.
The 20,435-strong organisation also reported it continued to cut deals with the top end of down, rather than heading to court. Read more.
Sharks CEO Lyall Gorman leaves Cronulla
Cronulla CEO Lyall Gorman will leave the Sharks 12 months after helping end the club’s 50-year premiership drought.
The club announced in a statement on Monday Gorman had advised the Sharks’ board he was moving on, with reports linking him with the vacant CEO job at Manly. Read more.
Cronk signs two-year contract with Sydney Roosters
Cooper Cronk will join the Sydney Roosters after agreeing to a two-year contract with tri-colours.
The Roosters on Monday confirmed signing of the 33-year-old Kangaroos halfback, 10 days after he revealed he would not be retiring after the World Cup.
"We are delighted to have secured the services of Cooper for the next two seasons," Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly said. Read more.
