A teenager has been charged following a brawl at a Halloween party in Gladesville on the weekend that left a teenage boy in hospital fighting for his life with critical head injuries.
NSW Police arrested a 17-year-old male at a home in Buffalo Road at Ryde on Monday and charged him with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and will appear at a Children's Court on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old who was punched to the ground outside the party on Sydney's north shore has woken from a coma and is talking to his family.
His family issued a statement on Monday that said the teenage boy had shown significant signs of improvement.
"We are pleased to announce that our son is now out of a coma and talking," the statement read.
"As you can imagine, this has been an emotional time for our family and we request the media respect our privacy so that we are able to focus our efforts on being there for our son and help him during this time."
Several neighbours called police when a brawl broke out between a group of males outside a home on Ganora Street, Gladesville on Saturday night.
A party of about 60 teenagers had been gatecrashed when the group, believed to have already been kicked out of another party, turned up uninvited.
The police arrived to discover a 16-year-old teenage boy had been punched, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head.
The teenager was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition and had been in an induced coma.
A group of young men had left the scene before police arrived however officers were forced to deal with dozens of partygoers, with Halloween masks and beer bottles strewn across nature strips and the road.
Investigations are continuing, with police appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
