A Cronulla mum and author has written a new book inspired by her children – designed to grab their attention off iPads and other screens.

Felicity McLean’s new book is shaped like an iPad and titled This is a Book! (no wifi needed).

“It is about rediscovering how fun a book can be,” she said. “It is not about demonising the iPad or other screens but remembering that books can be a lot of fun too.”

Ms McLean held a book reading and launch at Cronulla South Public School on Monday, the same school her daughter attends.

She has written six books but this is her first children’s book. “It was a lot of fun and very different than writing for adults.”

She said her two, young children often gravitated towards screens for entertainment and she wanted to write a book helping them discover the joy of reading.

This is a Book! (no wifi needed) can be found in book stores across Australia. You can also purchase it online here.

Illustrations in the book are done by Georgie Wilson.
