Update Monday
A work crew moved in on Monday to remove trees on the boundary of the Kirrawee brick pit development site.
Sutherland Shire Council issued advice ahead of the project that it was needed to allow widening of Oak Road. (see earlier story).
Sunday story:
A number of trees bordering the brick pit development site at Kirrawee are due to be cut down on Monday to allow road widening.
Sutherland Shire Council said the native Turpentine Ironbark trees being removed “represent a small portion of the tree canopy on this part of the South Village site and will take place under close supervision by council”.
The spokesman said the tree removal was in preparation for the future widening of Oak Road to two northbound and two southbound lanes between Princes Highway and Flora Street and associated works at the intersection of Oak Road and Flora Street.
“The road widening will address current and future traffic needs of the Kirrawee area made necessary by the development,” he said
“These native trees will be offset, both in the new public park being provided on the South Village site and in approximately 1500 square metres of other parkland area in the Sutherland Shire.
“Council is regularly updating businesses in Kirrawee regarding future road upgrade works.”
The development is powering ahead, and the developer has received approval for another 59 units taking the total number to 808.
