The famous quote by Satchel Paige asks “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?”
Experts have long agreed that the key to staying young is keeping an active mind and an active social life.
Why not learn a new skill, teach children to swim, travel with friends old and new or take on a role volunteering. Take a computer course and learn to demystify social media, or pick up information on volunteering to make this your most exciting year.
You can check local guides and notices to find out what’s on in the community. Alternatively, social media sites such as Facebook are also a great way of finding out what’s being held in the area. You can also search for like minded people and groups to connect with – anything from book clubs and gardening chats, to something a little wilder such as nights out with cocktails. Connecting with others in the same situation and who have the same needs as you helps with the feeling of isolation that senior years can bring. It will also encourage you to get active socially in an easy, non-confronting way.
