New Zealand thrashed the Cook Islands 76-0 in their second pool match at Southern Cross Group Stadium on Sunday to leave them unbeaten and on track for the semi-finals.
The Kiwi Ferns’ victory bettered Australia’s win over the Moana on match day one after the Jillaroos downed the Cook Islands 58-4.
New Zealand are looking to win back the World Cup title they lost to Australia four years ago, having won the previous three editions of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Canada scored their first ever World Cup victory when they downed Papua New Guinea 22-8 in the final match of the triple header on Sunday.
The Ravens trailed 4-0 early on before wrestling back the lead prior to half-time. Natasha Smith’s try in the final five minutes sealed victory.
In the final triple header of pool matches on Wednesday, England take on the Cook Islands (1.45pm) before Australia meet Canada (4pm).
New Zealand clash with Papua New Guinea (6.30pm) in the final pool match of the day.
The top four sides will then progress to the semi-finals on Sunday with the matches to also be played at Southern Cross Group Stadium, Woolooware at 1.45pm and 4pm.
The final will be played as part of a double header with the men’s World Cup final at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on December 2.
